Participants will explore and investigate language and writing as practice- and body-based work and examine questions of boundaries. The maximum number of participants will be limited to 10 persons. Participation of both workshops will be free of charge but donations are welcomed and it will go towards the fee for the artist conducting the workshop. At the end of both workshop sessions, participants are expected to present a short 10 minutes performance each.

This is a call for participation to a collective experiment, a colaboration with artists and non-artists alike exploring inner travel as a viable alternative to global tourism.

As your tour guide, I willprepare you for new experiences of the body in space and time before taking you on a trip to your own “hidden paradise”.

Using progressive mental, vocal and physical tasks I will show you how to

-       “get away from it all”

-       “discover authentic travel and beyond”

-       explore personal borders

-       build their own “insider guide” to their chosen paradise

No previous experience required, just a willingness to be there and see what happens, as if you were going to spend a day at the seaside with a group of friends.

Come as a tourist; comfortable clothing, a small backpack, a scarf, a pair of sunglasses and a digital camera if you have one.

I have used “in bracket” advertising headlines collected from the travel section of various newspapers. They all speak of authenticity, escapism, paradise and exclusivity juxtaposed with various visual combinations of sea, sun, sand and (promises of) sex; regardless of the destination or its geographical cultural social or political makeup.

What I propose is to follow to the letter these captions, in situ, in the hope to create a more meaningful ‘holiday’ experience for all involved, the performance, and an alternative series of postcards of each place visited, its documentation.

Documentation of the workshop will be presented as part of my contribution to R.I.T.E.S on the 23rd of June. It will be up to the group to decide what of and how to make public the live and visual work produced.

What is primary to this project is the collective and individual social experience of all involved. We are all narcissist at heart but also social being engaged with the reality of our environment. I am interested in a collaborative construction of a personal experience. It will be up to the group involved to decide what of and how to make public the experiment on Thursday 23rd at Substation theatre.

This project is based on the knowledge and experience I have gained through the (BtBtW)  workshop I have been developing for the past 4 years for  BA and MA students at UCA Farnham.

- Body thought Body talk (BtBtW) is about de-learning and being ready for new experience and perception of the body in space and time.

- Body thought Body talk workshop consists of a simultaneous collective and individual experience where the use of simple performance strategies is used to explore one’s body (as opposed to one’s mind) as a thinking and learning tool.

- The workshop requires no prior knowledge of performance art and is for individuals of all ages interested in exploring new ways of working with and challenging their existing knowledge
